Hudsonville, MI-based Royal
Technologies Corporation announced plans to construct a new
manufacturing facility that will serve the company’s growing
customer base in the Southeastern U.S.
The new manufacturing facility will
be located in Cullman County, Alabama, a community situated in the
northern portion of the state. Company founder and owner Jim Vander
Kolk said expanding to the south offers Royal the ability to better
serve the company’s existing customer base in the south and offers
Royal additional new business opportunities to continue to grow
business.
Royal is purchasing 26.6 acres of
land in Cullman Industrial Park # 5 and ultimately plans to
construct a building for plastic injection molding, assembly,
decorating, and foam molding. The Alabama operation will be the
first Royal facility outside of West Michigan.
Founded in 1987, Royal Technologies,
(formerly known as Royal Plastics) has three manufacturing
facilities and a corporate center near Grand Rapids. The company has
nearly one million square feet of floor space in the operations near
Grand Rapids with 800 employees.
“We have enjoyed great success in
Michigan and will continue to focus our efforts to grow in Michigan,
but the Southeastern part of the U.S. has shown tremendous
manufacturing growth and we want to capture a portion of that
business,” Vander Kolk said. “I see this expansion as necessary for
a healthy Royal Technologies future.”
Vander Kolk says the land acquisition
postures Royal to be ready “to expand quickly” when the economy
rebounds.
Royal Technologies is a diversified
manufacturer supplying products and services to the office
furniture, automotive, and consumer products industries.
