  • StackTeck® Acquires Matrix Technology Specialists
    StackTeck President and CEO Randy Yakimishyn announced that StackTeck has acquired Matrix Technology Specialists based in Hong Kong. The new company, StackTeck Matrix Systems will have operations in Toronto, Canada, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Matrix, founded in 2007 by a team of industry specialists, has focused its business on “forward thinking” integrated solutions that can be customized for
    each application.

  • EuroMold Update
    The 17th EuroMold, World Fair for Moldmaking and Tooling, Design and Application Development, will take place Dec 1 – 4, 2010, in Frankfurt, Germany. The show expects about 1,500 exhibitors from 45 countries and approximately 60,000 trade visitors.

  • U.S. Demand for Produce Packaging to Reach $4.8 Billion in 2014
    Demand for produce packaging in the US is forecast to increase 3.6 percent per year to $4.8 billion in 2014. Growth will be fueled by a rebound in fresh produce production and improved consumer spending in a recovering US economy. Other trends stimulating gains include increased nutritional awareness and efforts to curb obesity, which will promote healthier eating and interest in foods such as produce.

  • AMBA Announces Fall Conference in Washington D.C.
    The American Mold Builders Association Annual Fall Conference is open for registration, and all U.S. mold manufacturers are encouraged to join the AMBA for this year’s critical Election Year meeting. For the third year, the AMBA Fall Conference is being held in Washington, D.C., where attendees will once again schedule meetings with Senators and Representatives to show them that this industry is serious about the issues that impact American manufacturing.

  • AMBA Summer Business Forecast Survey Confirms Recovery
    The Summer 2010 Business Forecast Survey of the American Mold Builders Association reveals that the recovery seems to have taken hold as business continues getting better for a majority of respondents.

  • SPE Calls for Papers for ANTEC 2011
    The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) is putting its call out for papers in preparation for its Annual Technical Conference, or ANTEC, in 2011. The event will be held May 1 – 5, 2011, at the Hynes Convention Center and Boston Marriott Copley Center Hotel in Boston, MA.

  • EuroMold Moldmaking and Tooling Exhibitors Buying Up Space
    EuroMold, World Fair for Moldmaking and Tooling, Design and Application Development, reports a strong demand from numerous market leaders, mainly from Germany and West Europe. More than 75 percent of available space in hall 8.0, which focuses on Moldmaking
    and Tooling, has already been sold.

  • Western Michigan AMBA Awards Scholarships
    At its May meeting, the Western Michigan Chapter of the American Mold Builders Association (AMBA) presented several scholarships, including a $10,000 check to the Kent Career Technical Center, located in Grand Rapids, MI.

Armbrust will serve as the AMBA President for the next two years.

  • Mack Adds Senior Staff, Electric Presses


  • Arlington, VT-based Mack Molding Co. has reshuffled responsibilities and added new staff to its senior management team, it was announced by Jeff Somple, president, Northern Operations. Set in motion by the retirement of a long-term employee – Bruce Bixler, who served the company for 36 years – the reorganization tapped internal talent that collectively brings 80 years of plastics industry expertise to the table.

  • FABTECH 2010 Coming to Atlanta
    The countdown to FABTECH 2010 is underway as the event returns to the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, November 2-4, 2010. This represents the first time in four years that the show will take place in the Southeastern corridor, a region that continues to see growth and expansion in metal fabricating, manufacturing and infrastructure.

  • Quebec-Area Manufacturing Taking Off

  • Freudenberg Group Acquires 50 percent Stake in VistaMed Ltd.


  • The Weinheim, Germany-based Freudenberg Group and its affiliate Helix Medical Europe have acquired a 50 percent share of VistaMed Ltd., the Irish manufacturer of components for medical devices. The two companies are expecting the cooperation to provide synergies in the development of products and services as well as market penetration. With this move, the Freudenberg Group is expanding its activities in this growth industry. Only a year ago, Freudenberg set up its European headquarters for medical technology in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

  • CareFusion to Acquire IV Innovator Medegen
    CareFusion Corp., a leading, global medical device company, announced an agreement to acquire Medegen, a leading innovator in clinically differentiated needleless access valves and administration sets that deliver intravenous (IV) medication to patients, for $225 million in cash.

  • West Michigan Chapter Named AMBA Chapter of the Year
    The American Mold Builders Association awarded the West Michigan chapter its 2010 Chapter of the Year Award. The award was presented to the chapter at the AMBA Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida, on March 24.

  • AMBA Spring Business Forecast Survey Reveals Hint of Recovery
    The Spring 2010 Business Forecast of the American Mold Builders Association reveals a hint of recovery as business upticks lend an air of hopefulness. The quarterly survey revealed that current business conditions once again improved slightly over the previous three months, with 7% of the respondents saying that business is “Excellent” – up a full percentage point from 6% of respondents in the Winter 2010 survey, and putting that category back to where it was in the Fall 2009 survey. A total of 44% of the membership responded to this recent survey.

  • AMBA Announces Mold Builder of the Year 
    The American Mold Builders Association, the only industry trade association dedicated exclusively to U.S. mold manufacturers and their suppliers, awarded Mold Builder of the Year honors to Andrew Baker, project manager for Byrne Tool & Die in Rockford, Michigan. Andy received the award at the AMBA Annual Convention, March 24, in Orlando, Florida. 
     

  • Canon Communications to Produce Medical Manufacturing Event in Singapore
    Canon Communications recently announced that it will this year launch an exhibition and conference addressing the burgeoning market for medical device manufacturing in Asia. MEDTEC Southeast Asia will be held in Singapore 1-2 December 2010 and will offer design and manufacturing solutions to the growing medical device manufacturing community in the region.

  • Nypro Unveils New Website

  • Clinton, Massachusetts-based Nypro introduced a new website at its long-time domain, www.nypro.com. The completely redesigned website presents the Nypro corporate culture in simple concepts.
     

  • M.R. Mold Announces New Website, 25th Anniversary
    In February, M.R. Mold & Engineering announced the launch of its new website, with the assistance of DezTech Consulting LLC of Huntington Beach, CA, featuring a number of improvements to coincide with its 25th Anniversary year and to showcase its proprietary line of molding accessories. The project was completed in only 3 week's time so that the new website would be up in time for the MD&M West show in Anaheim, CA.

  • NADCA President Daniel Twarog Receives the Ray H. Witt Award
    The Ray H. Witt Award, established in 1999, is given to an individual for his/her leadership in the aluminum casting industry for investing resources to broaden the technology base, for introducing advanced concepts and techniques, for encouraging the education and training of new talent and for inspiring others to advance the industry through technical achievement. This year the Advanced Casting Research Center at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute is giving the Ray H. Witt Award to Daniel Twarog.

    Dan Moynahan, President of CAMM (Canadian Association of Mold Makers), and Pierre G. Fillion, President and CEO of FEPAC (Federation of Plastics and Alliances Composites) officially announced that they have come to an agreement for a promising strategic partnership to create the most important Mold Makers and Plastics Industry Network in Canada.

  • World Market Leaders Participating at Premiere of “amerimold“
    Numerous world market leaders from 3 continents are expected to participate at the premiere of “amerimold”. The event will take place May 11 – 13, 2010, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. By the end of February already more than 120 exhibitors had signed up. In total, the organizer DEMAT GmbH calculates that between 140 and 180 exhibitors will be on hand.
     

  • Rexam Unveils New Innovation Center in Buffalo Grove, IL USA

  • Gerresheimer Sets Up New Production Facility in Brazil
    The Gerresheimer Group has set up a new facility for medical plastic systems in Indaiatuba (Brazil). The plant is to commence operations early in 2010. On the basis of a long-term cooperation agreement with Novo Nordisk, components will be produced with state-of-the-art technology for insulin pen systems for diabetics.
     

  • Berry Plastics Completes Acquisition of Superfos Packaging
    Berry Plastics Corporation announced that it has completed the previously disclosed acquisition of 100% of the outstanding common stock of Superfos Packaging, Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Superfos a/s, located in Taastrup, Denmark.
     

  • Canon Virginia Names New President and CEO
    Mr. Yusaku Azuma has been named president and CEO of Canon Virginia, Inc. (CVI).

  • AMBA Winter Business Forecast Showing Continued Improvement
    The Winter 2010 Business Forecast of the American Mold Builders Association shows continued improvement, but companies overall are expressing guarded optimism about any significant recovery to bring on large mold programs from their customers. The quarterly survey revealed that current business conditions improved slightly over the previous three months, with 6% of the respondents saying that business is “Excellent” – down just 1% from 7% in the Fall 2009 survey.
